Building Skills and Opportunity in the Historic Westside
Who We Are
About the Historic Westside Workforce Development Program
The Historic Westside Workforce Development Education and Training Program (THWWDETP) is designed, organized and conducted by Plenary Enterprises, LLC and Come Unity Development Corporation. THWWDETP is a nonprofit entity operating under 501(c)3 IRS tax-exempt guidelines which means donations of any kind are tax-deductible.
The Historic Westside is undergoing changes as the HUNDRED PLAN IN ACTION is underway. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being invested and spent but the main ingredient that makes the Westside historic is the community. Historically the Westside was the African-American or Negro or Black side of town. Over the years other races have moved into the area but when the term “Historic Westside” is mentioned, most people deduce that the Black community is the topic. Therefore it is imperative that the Blacks or African-Americans that live in the Historic Westside get involved in the development, modernization and changes that are taking place. THWWDETP is here to ensure Black participation in the construction and other projects that take place within the 89106 zip code.
Community leaders and politicians want to see Black participation and want to see a percentage of the millions of dollars allocated and spent go into the hands, bank accounts and households of the Black community members. THWWDETP is one way to guarantee this will happen.
What to Expect
Persons that enroll in The Historic Westside Workforce Development Education and Training Program can expect classroom education and hands-on training as they learn the skills that the developers and contractors in the area want and need from a labor force. Each successful person that enters into the Program is treated and judged on an individual basis so that no person interested in participating is turned away or discriminated against. Where there is a will, there is a way, and we make sure we find ways to get our community members involved in the construction, development, redevelopment and modernization of their own neighborhoods and community. Each person is required to give at least 2 hours of time to the Program and achieve educational and skills goals that make them employable and useful on job sites in the area.
