Who We Are

About the Historic Westside Workforce Development Program

The Historic Westside Workforce Development Education and Training Program (THWWDETP) is designed, organized and conducted by Plenary Enterprises, LLC and Come Unity Development Corporation. THWWDETP is a nonprofit entity operating under 501(c)3 IRS tax-exempt guidelines which means donations of any kind are tax-deductible.

The Historic Westside is undergoing changes as the HUNDRED PLAN IN ACTION is underway. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being invested and spent but the main ingredient that makes the Westside historic is the community. Historically the Westside was the African-American or Negro or Black side of town. Over the years other races have moved into the area but when the term “Historic Westside” is mentioned, most people deduce that the Black community is the topic. Therefore it is imperative that the Blacks or African-Americans that live in the Historic Westside get involved in the development, modernization and changes that are taking place. THWWDETP is here to ensure Black participation in the construction and other projects that take place within the 89106 zip code.

Community leaders and politicians want to see Black participation and want to see a percentage of the millions of dollars allocated and spent go into the hands, bank accounts and households of the Black community members. THWWDETP is one way to guarantee this will happen.

What to Expect

Persons that enroll in The Historic Westside Workforce Development Education and Training Program can expect classroom education and hands-on training as they learn the skills that the developers and contractors in the area want and need from a labor force. Each successful person that enters into the Program is treated and judged on an individual basis so that no person interested in participating is turned away or discriminated against. Where there is a will, there is a way, and we make sure we find ways to get our community members involved in the construction, development, redevelopment and modernization of their own neighborhoods and community. Each person is required to give at least 2 hours of time to the Program and achieve educational and skills goals that make them employable and useful on job sites in the area.

COMMUNITY RESIDENT
Any person age 16 and older can enroll by completing a simple application. As soon as the application is received the person will be called into the office for an interview and a construction knowledge and skills examination. The interview and tests are only used to help the staff to determine the individual’s placement in the Program. We do not discriminate for any reason however all participants are required to arrive sober and with clean hygiene and a kempt appearance and ready to be successful. No profanity, violence or smoking of cigarettes, marijuana or vaping, and no use of drugs or consumption of alcoholic beverages are permitted while on the premises and while attending any education or training in the Program. Persons violating these rules will be asked to leave or escorted from the premises that day but will not be eliminated from the Program. As soon as the persons are ready to comply with the standards of human decency, they will be able to continue in the Program and receive the education and training they need in order to be employable and useful on construction projects in the area.
Contractor/Developer
Any contractor or developer can participate by donating time, tools, and expertise and teach modules, classes and skills to Program enrollees and participants. Contractors and developers can also make their businesses available for referrals via The Historic Westside Workforce Development Education and Training Program to residents and community members that need work done on the residential or commercial properties. Contractors and developers can also donate money to help support the Program. Any amount, size and frequency of a monetary donation is appreciated and tax-deductible. Complete Enrollment Form.

Support The Program by Donating Today

All persons in the community, regardless of status, position, income, age, gender, race, nationality, religion or lack thereof, are encouraged to support The Historic Westside Workforce Development Education and Training Program. Every dollar goes toward giving community residents the education and training to acquire skills that they can use anywhere in the world on construction projects, but most importantly monetary support helps community residents participate in the building, renovation, development or redevelopment of their own community where they live, work, go to school, raise their families, socialize and recreate; the place where their parents, grandparents or ancestors were possibly born, grew up, went to school, worked and partied.
